Scalloped Edge Christmas Stocking

Materials:
Size 7, 12” (16”) circular needle
Set of 4, size 7 double-pointed needles
1 Stitch marker
Worsted weight yarn– Cascade 220, 1 (2) hanks of Main Color [MC] and 1 hank of Contrast Color [CC]. Note: Depending on amount of CC stripes used on larger size, you might not need a second hank of the MC yarn.

Sizes:
Small [approx. 12” from top edge to bottom of heel, and 6 ½” wide],
(Large) [approx. 16” from top edge to bottom of heel, and 8 ½” wide]

Gauge: 5sts = 1” in Stockinette stitch

Directions:
Cast on 64 (80) stitches on the circular needle, place marker and join being careful not to twist.
Round 1: Purl all stitches.
Round 2: Knit all stitches.
Round 3: *yo, k2, sl1-k2tog-psso, k2, yo, k1* repeat from *to* around.
Round 4: Repeat round 2.
Round 5:. Repeat round 3.

Rounds 6-13: Knit all stitches.
(Rounds 14-28 create a bordered area to either knit or embroider a name)
Round 14: Purl all stitches.
Rounds 15-26: Switch to CC and Knit all stitches.
Round 27: Switch to MC and Knit all stitches.
Round 28: Purl all stitches.
Adding stripes of Knit each round until piece measures approx. 7 ½” (9 ½”) from Round 28.

Work heel as follows:

Knit 15 (19) stitches past marker, [bring yarn to the front as if to purl, slip next stitch, bring yarn to back, slip the slipped stitch back to left hand needle] (this creates a wrap on one stitch on the right side), turn, P30 (P38), [bring yarn back as if to knit, slip next stitch, bring yarn to front, slip the slipped stitch back to left hand needle](this creates a wrap on one stitch on the wrong side), turn, K29 (K37), wrap next stitch, turn. Continue wrapping stitches in this manner on both sides by working one less stitch each row (i.e. 28, 27, 26…or 36, 35, 34 etc.) until there are 8 (11) stitches wrapped on each side of the heel.

Knit up to first wrapped stitch, pick up wrap and Ktog with stitch, wrap next wrapped stitch, turn, purl to first wrapped stitch, pick up wrap and Ptog with stitch, wrap next wrapped stitch and turn.
*Knit up to the double wrapped stitch, pick up both wraps and Ktog with stitch, wrap next wrapped stitch. Turn. Purl up to the double wrapped stitch, pick up both wraps and Ptog with stitch, wrap next wrapped stitch. Turn* work from * to * till all wraps have been worked.

Knit around until foot measures approximately 7” (8 ½”) from back of heel.
Next round: Switch to Double-Pointed needles as follows: K16 (K20) onto first needle, K32 (K40) onto second, and K16 (K20) onto third.

Work toe as follows:
Round 1: Knit till 3 stitches before end of first needle, ssk, k2, k2tog, knit till 3 stitches before end of second needle, ssk, k2, k2tog, knit till end of third needle
Round 2: K all stitches
Repeat Rounds 1 & 2 until 32(40) stitches remain then repeat Round 1 until 10 (12) stitches remain. Cut yarn leaving a long tail, pull yarn through all stitches to close toe.

To make a loop to hang stocking with: Crochet a chain, make a braid, or take a piece of yarn the length desired and fasten a loop to the top of the stocking.

Weave in ends and block using an iron with steam.
